St Paul’s Thames Reflections

What else do you see in this Painting?

Lose yourself in this contemporary painting of the Thames at night. Can you imaging walking hand in hand with the love of your life along the south bank after an evening out. Only to be greeted by this sight?

Looking at the St Paul’s, what do you see?
Russet reds, golden yellow against the night sky. Texture permeates the piece. The water a rich display of blues, yellows and burnt umber, the rippling water is alove with colour yet deep and dark.

A couple walk by, focused on their destination then suddenly the view captures their attention. Are they heading out or heading home? You decide. Is it you with the love of your life. Are you heading out for a romantic evening, or heading home after the perfect night.

St Paul’s is Central to the image, the brilliant white of the page shines through, the rest of the structure hinted at, as it becomes lost in the night’s shroud.

Other lights hint at buildings, rapid inky splodges suggest walls and edges. You want to turn up the focus so you can make out the details…

But you can’t

Solid patches of pillar box red and peacock blue hint at mysterious structures, it’s impossible to tell what. Other knowledge may fill in the gaps.

The dominant feature is the texture and St Paul’s, the brilliant light of St Paul’s set against the kaleidoscopic, fluid, dancing sky.

Painting of the Thames at night with the colourful sky and lights reflected in the waters of the River Thames.

The river ripples along alive with colour as it reflects the street lights. The indigo sky full of colour,  as speckled bands merge and morph into each other. Here and there are dark splodges of heavy colour. Unforgiving darkness in a colourful heaven.

How was your walk?
