Artists need to create art!
It’s a no brainer really, but sometimes, in order to move forward, the creation part of art takes a back seat. With everything that’s been happening this past fortnight I’ve had little time (or space) to create new work…
I find my life goes like that. I have periods where I’ve time to create and others where I need to frame, deliver, install and meet people and the creating gets squeezed out. So, what’s my excuse this time?
I’ve moved into my new studio
– a few practical issues (windows haven’t been fitted yet) mean I can’t work there until next week but it’s all looking good.
And I’ve been installing the exhibition at Westbury Arts Centre!
It’s looking fantastic, if I do say so myself. I love the contrast between my work and Sally Brooks Ceramic shacks sculptures.
I’m also doing a workshop.
But are they really excuses when they’re all part of the process to getting my work seen? I have weeks when all I do is paint. And to prove it, in time honoured Blue Peter fashion…
Here’s one I prepared earlier!
Keble College’s Student union bar…
AKA Spaceship!
And it’s not hard to see why. Discovery is a delightful surprise as the quad’s entrance is an archway which gives no warning of its secrets!
Glad to hear that you’ve got a new studio. Happy for you! 😀
As for art making and not art making, I’m a culprit for the latter. I get too tied up in other things (maidless since 7years, so I’m the maid around the house), so when I do finally get around to making time to create, I feel to lazy to start on something. However, when I’m really powered up, I like to start something and finish it within that day or week.
Recently I haven’t been painting, but at least I did some photography: http://danaigud.see.me/onelife2013. Hopefully that is a success, I feel so chuffed with myself. That’s the thing with art, even if you’re not successful, you’ll always feel good about the completion and exposure of your work.
I want to wish you good luck for the exhibition. You’ll rock!
