What would you chose for Stonewall, Painting? number 35 4950 series

Stonewall paintings tend to be inspired by distinctive stonework, look at churches and castles and you’ll see plenty of examples. So why this one?

Stone walls are everywhere. Noticeable perhaps if you’re used to brick ones or areas where stone is seldon used. Choosing the subject for a stonewall painting, you expect something more distinguished dry stone walls or herringbone stonework for example. Although there aren’t many of those around here.

I saw several suitable candidates for my stonewall painting, usually linked to buildings with other features I’ve use. Which was part of the issue, being caught out by the “Use each building once” rule.

Why chose this particular wall?

I’ve used grand features and wanted to balance the series with some more mundane subjects. So why not a well weathered, typical stone wall. Ok, a slightly curved wall. It’s in plain sight but if you walk anywhere in Buckingham, you may well pass this one by on a daily basis. It’s visible on google maps for those not familiar with Buckingham.
