Am I seeing things?
The moment I started to paint this, the Robot appeared. I’d been drawn to the ornate hinges on the large black door and the fanlight above. The orange yellow glow of ink became his eyes. The arch or stones above his hair. A mouth looking slightly worried and a box body made of the door. I can even see the drain cover as a single wheel on which he balances and moves around. All signs of watching too much science fiction, no doubt.
The glow from his eyes spreads to the surrounding stonework to the left the dressed stones are neatly constructed and each stone is clearly defined. To the right there is some sense of order but the individual stones are indistinct. Lines flow from one edge to a patch of weathered masonry. All broken and crumbling in places.
The robot stands at the border between these two walls.
Bright colours. at the top of the painting, gradually fade to muted browns and sepia towards the bottom. The ground resembling marble as the colours vied with each other to create a mottled carpet. The odd pink bursts and those yellow eyes above in start contrast.
The robot is trying to tell you something…
