I’ve painted Trafalgar Square before, and it’s a favourite place for finding inspiration but I think the brollies reather than the architecture were what attracted me to the image I used for the National Gallery Painting. That and the way the tourists were sitting in a row, lost in their own little worlds yet somehow together.
