There are three punting places in Oxford, two in the city centre and Cherwell boathouse to the North,
Cherwell boathouse is, to my mind, the only place for punting. It’s peaceful and chaotic. There are punts and canoes and rowing boats, but no larger boats and no power boats. It’s beautiful, calm and relaxing then, occasionally the pole sticks in the mud and a drama begins. Will the punter fall in or not?

Something about this building reminds me of owls, the sloping and curved roof. The beak like outlined shape of the lower two sections. St George Wharf, Riverside Walk is on the south bank of the Thames, near Vauxhall wharf. The image used was taken from the Thames clipper on which I was cruising towards Canary

If you hadn’t seen the title, would you know what you are looking at? Once we understand what we see, it’s hard to unsee it. This is Blackfriars Bridge seen in close up detail. The closer you look, the more abstract it becomes.

Growing up near a canal. I’ve always been drawn to them. Though I should say, growing up near a derelict canal piqued my interest, and my curiosity, as the canal I grew up by was little more than a trickle. I wondered what they were like in the heyday. How they worked and how people managed with so little room in the working boats.

The sign is covered with stickers, a positive rainbow of them. In reality, they mar the structure, but in this painting, they become a feature as attractive as a building behind.

Am I comparing tacky stickers to the Palace of Westminster? Surely not!
