Work in Progress – St Catherine’s, Oxford.
Work on St Catherine’s is moving along steadily. I’m now at the painting stage. The first painting layer is always an organic process. Once finished I need to leave it to dry and the paint alters as it dries. Colours mix and separate. It’s one of the stages I love most because I’m never 100%

There’s progress at the mill…
We have colour! Just the first stage of painting but colour none the less. Next I apply darker colours and blow the paint around. But I have to leave it to dry otherwise the paint blooms instead of forming lovely tendrills. Now I need to be patient and not start the next step too soon.

In Painting, Preparation is 90% of the Job.
Cotton Mills are impressive structures… And complicated. But by ‘eck they look good when you get ’em right! And I think I’ve got this one right. In fact, I’m very pleased how it’s turning out. Of course, it’s going to change completely once I start painting. But as any painter and decorator will tell you.

Work in Progress
A return to Quarry Bank Mil for this weeks work in progress. The central courtyard to be precise. A decidedly wonky structure, but all part of it’s charm! And I’m only going a little cross-eyed doing it! There might be some choice language emanating from my studio as a result. I will post an update
Finished, at last!
After all my procrastinating, it’s done! Presenting the finished painting of the Barbican from the terrace. It’s a working title still. The structures on the roof remind me of Pill boxes on the coast. I can see something like “Waging war on Art” or “Defence of the Arts” being my final choice. And now the snow

How to Stop Procrastinating, Start Painting!
Do you have days when you seem to get nothing done? Me too! Procrastination has got the better of me again this week…or two. The snow isn’t helping. (Well we HAVE to test out the children’s new sledges!) Then there’s the usual distractions. I do a bit then have to stop… OK then, get waylaid.
