Window on the Past – Original Painting
About the Image:
Window on the Past is one of the earliest paintings created in Cathy’s distinctive watercolour and ink style. Stained glass, twisted and torn, this broken window once knew better days.
Neglected, abandoned, a once glorious window is in a sorry state of repair. Glass missing, it’s metal supports have been twisted and are now hanging loose.
In another part of the world it would be treasured, but not here in a run down area of a city. It’s sad to see buildings that were once created out of a sense of civic pride being lost to neglect and changing circumstances.
Neglected churches are open to fanciful interpretation. “god has abandoned his people” “The wrath of God” “Indicators of a faithless society”. Broken windows bacause the congregation are escaping a tedious sermon? I could go on, but you get the gist.
Why are buildings, that were lovingly created and maintained, just left to rot?
Some we can understand, impractical construction or situated by motorways or other locations which make them intolerable to live in.
