Sunlit Street – Original Painting
About the Image
Wandering back to the car, on a day out in Manchester, I crossed Deansgate and was mesmerised by the light. I’m a sunset and sunrise person. It’s not the time of day but the quality of the light that attracts.
It’s easy to forget the difference light makes to a scene. Those familiar with the scene will note a lack of tall buildings. You could say the extreme contrast caused an illusion, but no. The real reason is that the image was taken around 2012, long before the Deansgate Square development changed the skyline.
Creation: Masking fluid is painted onto watercolour paper to create an image. This is covered with a watercolour wash and covered with clingfilm. The picture is further developed using acrylic inks once the film is removed. The masking is removed after several layers are added and allowed to dry. Revealing the final picture.
