Lost and Abandoned in the City – Original Painting
About the Image:
I saw this abandoned bicycle driving through Central Manchester in July 2015. Looking at the resulting pictures, the figures on this one also seemed lost. It reflected my mood at the time. The photo I used was taken when we were returning home after my mother’s funeral.
There had been a lot of changes,in the ensuing months and while I’m all for change as it helps us grow, it can feel overwhelming.
We can all feel lost in the crowd or abandon things that were once important to us.
Or we can feel abandoned….
Just like that bicycle!
I wonder if anyone will reclaim it?
I hope so…
In 2022 I returned to meditate on the painting and shared some of those thoughts in the video below.
Creation: Masking fluid is painted onto watercolour paper to create an image. This is covered with a watercolour wash and covered with clingfilm. The picture is further developed using acrylic inks once the film is removed. The masking is removed after several layers are added and allowed to dry. Revealing the final picture.
