Designer Stadium – Original Painting
About the image:
Ever see a view and wish you could snap it?
Travelling at speed inspires me to take pictures. One such image inspired this Wembley Stadium Painting. In the car I often see potential pictures and wish I could take a picture. But the practicalities of driving make it impossible, actually extremely dangerous. Don’t get me started on people who use their mobile phones whilst driving. Fortunately train journeys make it easier. I’m free to snap away… if my phone/camera is ready.
I’ve passed Wembley on many occasions and been too late to get the shot. On this particular occasion I posed the camera just in time.
Taking pictures from a moving train is fraught with technical issues and I’m no expert. Managing a halfway decent image to work from was something of a minor miracle. Even so, the result was blurry with far too many reflections.
Thank God for artistic license! Extrapolating the information and sharpening the blurred lines I ended up with this finished result. You can’t even tell it’s a snap from a speeding train?
The image is created with masking fluid before painting it with watercolour wash covered with clingfilm. Once this is removed the picture is further developed using acrylic inks which are left to dry before the masking is removed to reveal the final picture.
