About the image: A memory from my past. Times Mill in Middleton used to dominate the landscape and cast a dark shadow on Grimshaw Lane. A daily sight as I passed it on the walk to school. Hard to believe that something that so strong and permanent is now just a shadowy memory. The once solid structure exists only in the minds of those who lived nearby or passed by on the way to school or work. The tall chimney casting its shadow and intimidating the children who walked past. You always felt the chimney was about to topple, although it never did. Well, not until it was made to when they brought it down.

This original picture is painted on watercolour paper using watercolour and acrylic inks. The image is created with masking fluid before painting it with watercolour wash covered with clingfilm. Once this is removed the picture is further developed using acrylic inks which are left to dry before the masking is removed to reveal the final picture.
