Ground Star – Original Painting
About the Image
Ground Stars can be found everywhere, if you look carefully. These are the intersections of the supports on the surface of the Gherkin in London. It’s a structure that inspires love or hatred. I personally think it is an inspired structure and skillfully executed construction. The light often catches the glass and look like stars on earth. Brilliant but impossible to reach.
The Ground Star painting was selected for the Society of Women artists Summer Exhibition in 2014. Held at the Mall Galleries, the painting was one of 6 paintings submitted which led to my acceptance into associate Membership with the society. I became a full member in the following year.
Creation The picture is painted on watercolour paper. Cathy draws the lines with masking fluid to a planned arrangement before painting it with a watercolour wash which gets covered with clingfilm. Once this is removed the picture is further developed using acrylic inks which are left to dry before the masking is removed to reveal the final picture.
