The moment trams were reintroduced in Manchester, I knew I'd end up painting them. Trams are fascinating, aren't they? They appeal to a childish part of our nature. So painting trams seemed only natural.
Less than a week to go! And work for the exhibition has taken over! But, even committee members must focus on your own work and create something… eventually! Although, it’s not unknown for committee members to submit work that’s still wet! Interpretation of the theme is the sticking point! Our theme is light. So many potential ideas… But which to choose? Where to start? Sometimes simple is best! This light is one of those visible on the Terrace outside the Houses of Parliament. There are 2 lights on each post. One historical, elaborately constructed and brilliant. The other smaller, simpler, dimmer… An afterthought! Added sometime after the initial light was erected. But within these two simple lights I see a metaphor for political power. They could be two main parties vying for supremacy… But only one dominates. Or maybe the lights are the conflicting power within a Coalition government! Imbalanced due to the different party sizes. One party gets a chance to shine more brilliantly! But that brilliance may switch to the newer light! Now which should it be?
So how did we do? The exhibition looked great, there were lots of people- although apparently quiet for John Lewis! We had a lot of interested people, sales were made, not as much as we’d like but worth the effort! Well, this last week has been hectic, to say the least. I need to chill by a pool, dangling my toes in the water, drinking a cocktail, or a nice glass of Chianti! Ideally somewhere hot… like Miami Reality setting in here! A nice cup of tea with my feet up on the sofa will have to do! This photo belies how busy it was! I wasn’t able to take pictures when I was busy… because I was busy! Of course! BTW – The seated lady talking to a customer is fellow artist and Bafa member Mita Vaghela. She has some beautiful woodland scenes with the light coming through! Several people were curious how I was able to concentrate with all the activity! I was more concerned about missing potential customers whilst engrossed in my work. Selling my art is something I struggle with! But Demonstrating is a different matter. It allows me to engage with the public, to explain […]
So, do you think the internet is a…Friend or Foe? Does it make your life easier, or soak up huge amounts of time that you’d rather spend elsewhere? I like to think I’m pretty technology savvy but maintaining my online presence is sometimes an utter nightmare. Take this week! I’ve found some really helpful websites for artist’s wanting to promote themselves I read this article on Facebook Pages at the Art Biz Blog and realised I wasn’t putting credits on my images. Oops, time to sort that little problem out! Tackling the Facebook page was pretty easy. Then I decided to update my website! While I was on, I thought I’d upload some new images including this one inspired by stained glass! You know, multi-tasking! But having spent 2 hours on it last night, I tried to save … and lost everything! It was late so I decided to retry today. I’ve spent 3 hour so far today and progress had been very slow! One step forwards and ten back! Trouble is, the software I’m using (Mr Site) isn’t really up to the task! It’s slow and information isn’t always being saved! So, I’ve decided to change my website and […]
