An Artistic Endeavor
Solo Exhibition by Cathy Read
Tracking the progress from early circle based abstract work to city landscapes. Cathy’s style has developed over the last 3 years from early experimentation with masking and mixed media techniques to complex urban structures.
Initially drawn to the perfection of a circle and the contrast with the chaotic application of paint. The early circle studies are an exploration of the medium and it’s visual potential.
The work progresses through an exploration of psychological concepts investigated during her career as an Occupational Therapist. A natural progression of this was an almost psycho analytical interest in the architecture and it’s dominance of her hometown Middleton in Greater Manchester.
From the decaying cotton mills to the contemporary structures which replaced them. The process of change is wrought in any city. As once thriving buildings are demolished and replaced by structures more suited to 21st Century needs. In an ongoing circle of birth to death to rebirth.
