Back to the studio with some new painting. It’s been a crazy old month. I’ve been creating art but I have not been doing much in the way of blogging. I’m playing catch up after Oxford art weeks, Bucks Open Studios, a visit to Manchester… and another event last week which I can’t share at the moment but will when I can. In the meanwhile you can have fun speculating. Onto the new paintings, this one has a distinctly abstract feel. So I thought we could play a game. All masked and with a cling film layer. See if you can figure out what it is. It is abstract but it’s based on reality. This one should make it easier for you… Loving the bright colours. Still struggling, or have you guessed it? Here we have the masking being removed And a wide view. Yes, it’s a piece of wall. Did you spot the car? I have no idea what model it is. In my mind it’s something expensive. No doubt someone will correct me if I’m wrong. The photo was taken on one of the backstreets off Piccadilly in London. I forgot to note where. And finally a cropped […]
Finally I can reveal my latest canvas! It’s taken a little longer than planned but I’ve finally finished the work in progress I started last week. After a hectic but thoroughly enjoyable weekend followed by far too much paperwork I’ve been able to finish a painting! I’m still working on the title so as yet it’s “untitled number whatever I’m up to now”. Although as I write this I’ve a strong urge to call it “The eyes have it” Those circles are the lights but they’re looking distinctly eye like to me and more than a little bit creepy. Do you see what I mean? It’s purely coincidence mind you. I was keen to take it more abstract for this one. Now, what shall I call it?
After all my procrastinating, it’s done! Presenting the finished painting of the Barbican from the terrace. It’s a working title still. The structures on the roof remind me of Pill boxes on the coast. I can see something like “Waging war on Art” or “Defence of the Arts” being my final choice. And now the snow has finally cleared, I’ll be back at my studio this week! Which means producing some more BIG pictures!
Are you wondering what they’re saying? So am I! But I rather fancy them as the characters from “Waiting for Godot“ And here they are in full glory. Or maybe they’re more Shakespearian? What do you reckon?
Here’s the New Network Rail building… – well the painting at least. After thinking about The Fat Controller when this was a work in progress. The Postman Pat theme is now playing in my head. A disadvantage of having children I suspect. But here is the complete picture. I just need to work on a better title. Sir Topham’s Control Box perhaps? Too corny? I know, that’s my problem. Time to step away and look at it with fresh eyes in the morning.
Sometimes I struggle with titles… And other times they just leap out at me! Since completing this picture I’ve had a tune in my head… Destination Anywhere Perfect! That’s the beauty of Art. It can take you anywhere! So where are you heading?
