Too Hot? Appreciating the Humble Water Tap. #4950Paintings

Could it be that Summer is here? Or did I speak too soon? I know, this is England, so probably not. But a girl can dream, can’t she? Whilst I’ve been enjoying the sunshine, this week’s subject seems especially apt. When it’s hot, you really appreciate The humble water tap And this water tap is certainly as humble as you can get. Mass produced, relatively new and basic in style. Taps are everywhere, and rightly so. With warm weather we enjoy the ready source of water, the source of life, especially for plants on a hot day. Instant access to fresh water or hot water for bathing. We take them so much for granted. When we were converting our home from a chapel, we lived with a single water tap that wasn’t even securely fixed to the wall. Every time we needed water we had to get a jug or a bucket or a kettle (and often a torch) and go to th back door to fill it. We had no hot water tap, or indeed any other taps for 5 months. Church Tower painting -Is the universe conspiring against me? #4950Painting 13

Some weeks go more smoothly than others. This week should have been easy. I decided to do the tower, which should have been last week. I’ve had some wonderful suggestions, there’s a wonderful water tower near Mursley which would have been fantastic, I’d need to go for a drive. BUT I’ve had car trouble so photo opportunities were restricted. Which has meant I’ve had to keep it really local. My inspiration/ideas were thin on the ground, Until remembered church towers! There are a few of those around Buckingham. I settled for Radclive Church, partly because it’s a simple little tower, but also because it’s next to where my studio was in Radclive, and it seemed fitting. Here’s the work in progress. The finished Radclive Church Tower painting. Having finished, it still feels a bit too traditional for me. So, I might be kicking over the traces for the next one, 13 Tap. When plans change. 4950 challenge #11 Brick Wall Painting

A change from the advertised, 11 – Brick Wall The best laid plans of mice and men… and all that. Last week I promised to bring you a brick wall painting, and that I have. Complete in all its crumbling finery. The trouble is I was supposed to be doing a tower! Oops! I got completely carried away last week before I thought to check the schedule. Low and behold I have the brick wall down for week 12, I feel some juggling may occur over the next few weeks as I have no tower to do yet and I really have to play catch up this week. Otherwise I’m going to run out of year, and that won’t do. So here’s Painting #11 Brick wall as a work in progress. Looking at a straight wall seemed a bit bland so I decided to do a corner rather than facing the wall full on. A bit of roof tiling and gutter may have slipped in as well. Can’t think how that happened! *Whistles innocently* The picture was taken under artificial light so has a distinct orange glow reminiscent of orange street lights. Rather apt considering. 4950 Challenge #10 Wall Street Light Painting

Presenting #10 – Wall Street Light painting This week’s painting has been a challenge. Not because it’s been complicated, quite the opposite in fact. This week has been hectic due to family birthdays, end of term shenanigans and all that. Finding the time to just get on and do it. Well, I eventually got there. Here’s 10 Wall Street Light as a work in progress. And as a finished piece… There’s a little more tidying up to do and I need to take a better photo once that’s done. This one was taken with my phone and no tripod. I have to admit, I’ve enjoyed the lack of lines on this one. Allows the paint to more freely after the restrictions of the Juliet Balcony painting, forming some beautiful bloom patterns. Less is often more, as they say. The title is proving a challenge… I quite like 10 Wall Street Light, it provokes images. Even if it is of a different Wall Street and not the one in a quaint little town in the far reaches of rural Buckinghamshire. I may have to ponder it awhile, unless you have any ideas? #9 Juliet balcony painting but where’s Romeo?

Presenting 9 – Juliet Balcony painting “Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?” I’m sorry, but it had to be done. Although a pretty little balcony, this one wouldn’t really suit 2 lovers trying to meet in secret. For one it’s not secluded and two, there’s nowhere to hide. The balcony is on Bridge Street, one of the main roads through Buckingham. There are no hedges to hide behind. Stand below so you can see anyone up top and I suspect you’d be putting your life in your hands. But see for yourself. Here it is as a work in progress. A little further on in the balcony painting it looks like this. And for the finished Piece. Lots of yellow in this one, which makes a change from my usual blues.
